Two of the three fishermen, Sukanthan (age 22) and Xavier (age 38), were in the custody of the Sri Lankan navy when the body of another fisherman, Rajkiran (age 28), was found dead.

Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased fisherman Rajkiran and ordered him to provide Rs. 10 lakhs from the Chief Minister’s General Relief Fund to his family.
